"Talking about yourself is always difficult; I have always been interested in anything creative, painting, music, the written and spoken word but most of all, photography. My graphics background taught me techniques of composition, design and colour. I like dynamic lines, exciting composition and to convey what it is like to be in these fascinating places."

Sam was born in Leicester to Helen and Peter and was raised in Ilkley, North Yorkshire, and Midhurst, West Sussex, before returning to North Yorkshire and his current home of Harrogate.

Achieving a high level BA (Hons) in Graphic Design at Derby University taught Sam valuable techniques of composition and colour. Upon graduating he went on to work self-employed for a year as a graphic designer.

He soon realized that photography, something he had pursued from a very early age, was his true passion and he couldn’t do it confined to an office. Equipping himself with his camera, Sam bought a flight to Russia and a train ticket to China. He set off with two simple goals: to experience a bit of the world and return with a body of work to kick-start his professional photography career. That ‘bit of the world’ he sought, not really knowing where he would end up, turned out to be a large proportion of South East Asia and most of Australia.

On his return to the UK in 2005, 18 months later, Sam used the images he captured during his travels to launch two successful exhibitions and a new website, steadily building a business in both fine art sales and editorial.

Sam has had national and international success with a diverse client base, from fine art hanging in homes and corporate spaces, to travel books, magazines in America, and billboards in Japan. Career highlights to date include appearing on the front cover of an affiliate publication of the National Geographic, featuring in BBC’s Garden Illustrated magazine, being part of an exhibition in Harrods as part of the 55max franchise, and an endorsement from Michael Palin who said: “Excellent work! Keep on doing what you’re doing!”

Sam took that advice very seriously. From those nine countries that started it all in 2004 and 2005, he has traveled far and wide, including getting his first taste of the Middle East and Africa. Alongside the photography Sam works as a guide for an adventure travel company, sharing his knowledge and experience.

Sam has made his publishing debut with a book, which documents a trip to East Africa in 2009 and 2010.
